Day 1
Which comes first, the father or the father? Or where would the chicken be if he didn't cross the road? This particular road requires something more than usual to cross the country. Behold the view of my father's third camper as it sits in his driveway, longing for the trip that began today.
The Winnebago Boldt is his third camper, purchased about the years ago. His original Winnebago goes back to the mid or late 60s, the classic Winnebago Brave:
Boldt or Brave. You decide.
We arrived about 9:00 at the New Stanton Travel Plaza, the last rest stop in Pennsylvania, a state that allows campers to spend the night. It's free and my father has always liked free. It's been a favorite cost saving scheme that goes back as far as I can remember, sleeping in the old Winnebago Brave as we set off to South Dakota to visit his mother on the farm. As far as I can tell, the rest stop is still the same as it was in 1972. Lots of trucks. Maybe that is why the chicken crossed the road?
Blessings to all of you on this Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary! It's an auspicious day to begin our travels. So it starts. September 8, 2023.
That last picture goes back before you were born: Grandpop (Mom's dad), me, Mom, Kathy, Dad, Patty, and David in front.
